Barbados Culture: The Barbados Horticultural Society Open Gardens Programme

Each year the local Horticultural Society opens some of the island's best private gardens for public viewing. The gardens open from 2pm to 6pm on Sundays in January and February and admission is BDS$10.00 (US$5.00) with half price to members of the BHS. This price includes a complimentary drink.

The gardens will be signposted for the convenience of visitors and further details can be found each week in the daily newspapers. For further details check the Visitor Magazine, the local newspapers or call the Barbados Horticultural Society at (246) 428-5889.

Barbados tropical gardens opened in the past included the following...

Petrea GardensPetrea Gardens
Home of Mr and Mrs Marcus Beckles at Trents, St. James. Five acres of lush and spacious garden, enhanced by a beautiful lake, bridged at several points. The Garden is named after the white Petrea plant seen on entering the garden.

GardeniaGardenia

Home of Mr and Mrs Cecil Duckworth at The Garden, St.James. Designed by famous landscape artist "Tabora", the garden features curves, paths and plantings, which complement each other. A riot of bougainvilleas and secluded pool enhance this one and half acre garden.
